Professional Brushes
All M·A·C Professional Brushes are hand-sculpted and assembled using the finest quality materials. They have features such as birch wood, linden wood, ramin wood handles, nickel-plated brass ferrules, natural and synthetic fibres. The fibres are primarily virgin hairs (those with tapered ends) and are obtained by shearing animals. The sheared fibres are sterilized in boiling water or dried at high temperatures. Farmed animals are protected by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (C.I.T.E.S) organization.
M·A·C Professional Brushes offer a varied selection of fibres. The firmer the fibre, the better for blending, shading, lining, defining or depositing colour. A softer fibre will allow a minimal deposit of colour or dusting powder. Fibres such as select goat are very soft yet firm and are used for water-, emollient-, or powder-based products. Pony bristles are firm and are designed for depositing and blending colour. Other goat bristles are soft and may be used for colour application, blending or dusting powder. Most synthetic brushes are soft, yet firm and good for strong deposits or quick applications of colour. Some brushes are assembled using a mixture of synthetic and natural fibres. Each brush may be used in many ways. For example, one brush may be used for concealer, lipstick or eye shadow application.
Our brushes are numbered in a way that help designate the primary usage and relative size. The 100’s series are recommended for use on the face and cheek. The 200’s are designated for use on the eyes. The 300’s are designated for use on the lips.
Educate the Customer on the function of the brush instead of the source of the fibre. Brushes should be recommended to every Customer purchasing powder-based products, to ensure the best results.
The quality of M·A·C Professional Brushes will surpass expectations as long as they are properly cared for.
Please advise the Customer to wash newly purchased brushes before use, to remove any preservative residue.
Brush Components
Each brush has the following components:
1. Hair Bundle
The diagram seen here shows the flower tip and the length-out of the brush. The length-out is the visible length of hair between the ferrule and the flower tip. The flower tip is, primarily, what comes in contact with the skin. The hair bundle is shaped and measured. The bottom of the bundle is dipped into a natural glue to secure the bristles. Then it is inserted into the ferrule.
2. Ferrule
The metal (nickel-plated) part of the brush. The ferrule secures the hair bundle and is attached to the handle.
3. Handle
The handle is made of various woods; lacquered three times with black enamel and decorated in silver with the M·A·C logo and brush number.
