A selection of nice things people have said about me

The best piece of advice I’ve received as a senior leader is to hire someone better than you as your Director. That’s who Jason was to me. He is a driven and passionate design leader who is equally comfortable discussing the scalability of development solutions and how the work of famous psychologists drives persuasive design. He built a dynamic and flexible design and prototyping team that spread out across the globe and could nimbly respond to requests ranging from next-generation AI-driven software solutions, to investor presentations (that secured a major acquisition), to double-decker trade show booths, all the way down to the day-in-day-out of social media posts. He was unafraid to respectfully challenge me and my decisions with thoughtful and comprehensive positions, and most of the time when he did – he was right. Jason is a phenomenal talent, a passionate leader, a thoughtful man, and has my unequivocal recommendation.

Jeff Mahacek, VP, Design @ Redfin

Jason is one of the most impressive combinations of designer and manager I have come across. He has real vision combined with an excellent ability to motivate and manage his team whilst delivering true business value to the organization. I would not hesitate in recommending him at senior level to any organization. I hope to work with him again in the future.

Mark Lock, CEO @ Genius Sports Group

Jason brings a thoughtful approach to design. In Rentals and AI, we tackled some pretty ambiguous questions and problems. Jason brought good ideas, a different perspective, and coached his team to think through the questions and challenges in a constructive way. I also appreciate how Jason is always willing to find a way to get something done, such as when it came to someone on his team helping out on a new project or effort despite it not being on anyone’s official plate or list of things to do.

George Perantatos, Senior Director, Product @ Redfin

I had the privilege of working under Jason’s leadership, and I can confidently say that he is an exceptional manager. Jason is not only thoughtful and caring but also refreshingly honest. His straightforward approach creates an environment of trust, where open and candid conversations about projects and career development are encouraged. Jason has consistently demonstrated that he genuinely wants his team to succeed, advocating for us in ways that are rare among managers. His support and mentorship have been invaluable, and I am grateful to have had him in my corner.

Stephen Lopez, Senior Product Designer @ Redfin

Having Jason as a boss, mentor, and friend is one of the greatest blessings in my early design career. His introspective, humble, and empathetic personality fostered a psychologically safe environment for growth and experimentation within the design organization. From coming up with preposterous lunch plans, laughing at nerdy jokes, to identifying opportunities to facilitate my professional growth, I always felt safe being honest and vulnerable with Jason.

One time I identified a project that I felt passionate about, but the nature of the project is out of the scope of my work. Jason not only encouraged me to pursue the project, he took the time to teach me supplemental skills to excel at the project. He mentored me from being an associate product designer to a promotion to mid-level designer and was no doubt my biggest advocate.

Any organization would be lucky to have someone like Jason on their team. He exemplifies the inclusive, open, and empathetic values that make a great leader and overall excellent human being and friend.

Leesan Kwok, Product Designer @ SingleOps

Jason was not only a passionate leader but also an incredible mentor. What I appreciated most about Jason’s unique leadership style was his humanness. It was clear from the very first one-on-one I had with him, that he not only deeply understood the product space he was entering, but also the challenges I was facing as a researcher at Indy (formerly Tispr).

Throughout our journey together, Jason consistently checked in, listened, and advocated for our team’s needs. He crafted a safe-space of mutual respect, transparency, and motivation. He was an invaluable part of my professional journey — encouraging both professional and personal growth. I am grateful to continue to have him as my mentor.

Mane Rodrigues, Qualitative Researcher @ Indy

Jason is an intentional design leader that promotes growth in people and businesses. He utilizes his super powers in storytelling to guide ideas to fruition. While working together at Redfin, I sought Jason’s advice in strategic thinking and 1:1 coaching for direct reports. His expertise in those areas are evident in the Ask Redfin (AI chat) project where he navigated a cross-team initiative and brought his team through a successful launch. When I think about the impression he left on the design team as a whole, I immediately think about the high bar he held for design critiques. His consistent push for best-in-class designs has helped elevate the bar for Redfin. His impact and presence has left Redfin a better place.

Justin Reyes, Product Design Manager @ Redfin

Jason is an excellent VP. I was always impressed by his ability to define a his visions in a way that ensured his team knew what to our goals were and why they were important. His strategic intuitions are spot on and his ability to articulate them left no person in the dark.

As a manager, he knew exactly when to check-in, when to step in and offer feedback, when to trust his team. He also was adept at being able to look at a distraction and know if it was worth pursuing for the company or whether he needed to run interference to keep us focused. That, along with his gift for cutting through BS, getting to the heart of the matter, and finding resolution to any roadblocks his team encounters is why I would happily recommend him to any company lucky enough to be considering him.

Niles Plante, Product Manager @ GGN/Xfire
